Let us start the new year with an exciting new vision of art at Woodward Gallery, New York. Out of thousands of artist submissions, Director John Woodward made a choice to present eighteen remarkable artists, inviting them to the group exhibition New York, New York. Originating from various parts of the world, such as Japan, Spain, Canada, an the USA as well, they make a superb overlap of different aesthetic approaches and sensibilities together. Expressing ideas through sculpture, paper and painting, these artists will truly contribute to a vivid experience of the audience. It is time to leave patterns of the all-too-similar repetitive art fairs and auctions behind and cling to something fresh.
Artists Included
All of the invited artists will expose their works at Woodword Gallery for the first time, and here is a (bit long) list of their names: Mary Armstrong, Rine Boyer, Daniel Calder, Astrid Cravens, Osmeli Delgado, Kevin Frank, Danielle Hatherley, Jessica Hurley Scott, Javier Infantes Lopez, Howard Kalish, Daphnae Koop, Vedran Misic, Pozas (René Monzón Relova), Juri Morioka, Nancy Newman Rice, Shaun O’Rourke, Steven Parton, Taka Sudo. Their works surely seem to differ in style – from Abstraction to Surrealism and Figurative styles. The selection includes both forthright and introvert approaches, thus addressing a variety of personalities and reaching out quite inclusively.
A Fine Palette of Colors
Some may feel that the darker-toned abstract works of Mary Armstrong resonate with them, while others may find themselves spellbound by the neon-like shades of Vedran Misic’s figurative paintings. Or perhaps, rather intrigued by the recurring motive in work of Osmeli Delgado, who has been extensively examining the symbolism of the heart throughout her career. Anyhow, the outcome of this exhibition’s structure seems to be the plethora of color, even when particularly referring to the works that do not primarily deal with color. It really is so, because the combination of selected artworks creates a captivating setting, a heterogeneous mixture whose allure relies on diversity rather than resemblance and reference.
Start Spreading the News
Colorful New York, New York will be on view from January 9th to February 27th, 2016, and the opening reception will be held on Saturday, January 9th from 6-8 pm. Woodward Gallerykindly informs that refreshments will be served, and also invites the guests to join them for an afterparty at GHOST Art Lounge directly across the street. So, to put it in Sinatra’s words, start spreading the news, and be a part of it – New York, New York!
